Starting the process

A few years ago, I made a decision to leave behind me what seemed like
everything I had built up in my life up to that point, and strike out in a whole
new direction.  As I went through this process, it often felt to me as if I was
doing the same journey as the Israelites, from Egypt, through the desert,
and eventually into the Promised Land.

I have tried to capture a few of the most significant elements of that journey
in here, and I hope it will be of value to you, as it had been to me, at the
time, as you set out to change your life.

I will start from where my life was at as I approached a point of almost total
breakdown, and then take you through the process of what had happened
from there.  Sometimes I will use extracts from my Journal to help you see a
bit of where I was at.

Maybe, you could find some value in seeing and understanding some of the
process that was part of making a major change to my life.

I'm going to start from the beginning of 2007.  Maybe just a quick word of
background.  I had been working, before that, for a large IT company, and
I'd become increasingly frustrated with that career.  So I'd started becoming
involved in a few restaurants as a partner and part time manager.  I was
working half day for the IT company, and half-day in the restaurants.

Financially we'd made some bad decisions, so things were going rather tight,
and seemed to just be getting worse.

I was grappling with my fundamental approaches to life, and grappling with
living a life that seemed to be continually driving me to the edge of either a
heart attack or suicide.
