Who is Ashton?
Growing up under the open South African Skies, I had the
opportunity to see the contrasts of wealth and poverty,
oppression and freedom.
Being brought up in a society where the color of your skin
determined your status in society, I spent my childhood
believing that this was "normal". Moving into social work in
my late adolescent years, I began to be challenged on the
normality of this, and became actively involved in speaking
against the violations that this legal system had imposed
on my fellow human beings. I participated in, and saw the
freedom offered to South Africa with the 1994 elections
when Nelson Mandela was voted the first truly
democratically elected President of South Africa.
What am I doing now?
I spend time with my lovely wife, and my two beautiful
kids, as well as with my parents who live just down the
path here in China. I have very limited communication
with my mother in law who cannot speak any English.
I am currently on a part time basis the Strategic
Manager of Zoë Life, contributing to the vision of
breathing abundant life into areas where there is no
abundance.
I had written seven teenage novels by the time I completed
High School.
I have studied, researched, experimented with and written
about leadership principles and people management skills
for the past 19 years. During this time I had worked in
various management and supervisory positions in
business across various industries, as well as in non-profit
and Christian organisations. I had been awarded several
performance related awards during my career.
I have done about 10 years of development work amongst
high-school-going youth, in various church and Christian
based organisational roles.

Also as part of my involvement in Zoë Life, and through some recent studies, I have become
involved in Organisation Development, and have taken a particular liking and interest in this field
of work.
I also a lecture at Tan Kah Keeh College, a division of Xiamen University, in Fujian Province,
Mainland China.
I love out-door activities, such as body-boarding, hiking, and cycling in my free time. The waves
here prohibit body-boarding, so mountain-biking is my main current form of physical recreation.
I write a weekly Christian Devotional which you can read here.
I play guitar, piano, write music (just for myself) and love reading.
I like people to sculpt better lives for themselves.
Having thrown away all the teenage novels I had written at school, I have only recently completed
the first manuscript of a teenage novel again, which will hopefully be published in the near future!
